Minor First Aid

Lead: Ms. P

 

Common first aid symptoms:

minor swelling, stomach aches,

cramping, and headaches

 

10-15 minutes of the following treatment:

  • Ice pack

  • Tea

  • Heating pad

 

Will re-assess, and determine next steps (i.e. send back to class, contact home, or ask for 2nd opinion)

 

If the student has a fever of 100 degrees or more, will have nurse verify, and issue Permit-to-Leave slip.

 

Nurse/ Ms. P will inform parent/ guardian, and send the student with a Permit-to-Leave slip to the Attendance office to get excused before leaving the campus.

 

Incident reports are filled out by the Nurse and/or Ms. P.

Major First Aid

Assess and recommend treatment for the following:

  • Emergency first aid incidents

  • Uncontrolled bleeding

  • Vomiting

  • Severe Injuries

  • Stomach Flu

  • Severe Aches/ Pain

  • Rash

  • Bug Bites

  • Head injuries

  • Allergies

 

  • Vision/ Hearing Screening (10th grade & as requested)

  • Case management of chronic health condition (i.e. seizures/ Diabetes)

  • Coordinate prescribed medication

  • Health Assessments for IEP/ 504

 

If the school nurse is not available, Asian Health Service (AHS) can support on Tuesday/Thursday IF available.

 

If either are not available, Ms. P will call home to inform their guardian, and send the student up to the Attendance Office for a Permit-to-Leave slip.

  • Sports physicals

  • Evaluation for minor infections: ear infections, colds, sore throat, viral and flu-like symptoms

  • Consultations for common chronic pediatric conditions for which there is already a known diagnosis, including evaluation of mild exacerbations:

    • Asthma

    • Seasonal Allergies

    • Diabetes

    • Overweight/ Obesity

  • Evaluation for new, mild complaints: Rash, headache, breathing problems, abdominal pain, nausea/ vomiting/ diarrhea, musculoskeletal complaints, urinary discomfort

  • Evaluation for minor injuries

  • Insurance eligibility

 

Behavioral and mental health services available by COST referral and appointment.

  • Dental exam with x-rays

  • Dental fillings

  • Dental cleaning

  • Deep cleanings

  • Fluoride treatment

  • Dental sealants

  • Oral Hygiene instruction

  • Extraction of primary/ baby teeth

  • Evaluation for emergency services

  • Referral for specialty service
